Postcards came in!

So excited about these! Not to mention, these are custom made with my artwork printed on them but I hope to inspire people to hand write letters/postcards to their friends and family. It's something about having a hand written letter from someone makes the thought even more special.

Yay!

My work was mentioned in the RVANews Holiday Shopping Guide! Pretty excited about it. Artisan Alley will be open every day the week before Christmas so be sure to stop into 323 W. Broad Street and check out my work as well as other local artists. Thanks!

additions to the Dreamcatcher series

I love having different series going at one time. I love making art but sometimes you can grow uninspired in one specific series so you move on to the next. I had a lot of fun revisiting the dreamcatcher series and I'm starting to play around with mixed media. Let me know what you think!

embracing digital.

Watercolor, acrylic, digital.

For a while, I was refusing to embrace digital mediums. I've learned that I need to get with the times and combining the two can really spice up an image. I might even say that i'm beginning to have a love affair with digital. Baby steps, baby steps. :)

bird studies

I went to Curacao for two weeks and fell in love with birds there. There are so many different types of birds, so many colors, and some seem to even have personalities. They were pretty inspiring to me.

Back from my travels!

Hello everyone!

I just got back from an amazing trip in Curacao! (Reason for a delay on an update) =) I had a fantastic time and I have come back to Richmond relaxed, inspired, and ready to create some art!

Check back tomorrow for a few sketches that I did in my sketchbook while in Curacao!

Thanks! xoxo.

Martin Parr Article

I don't do as much photography as I do painting and illustrating, but I found this was a great article for any artist to read.

Congratulations, Allison Smith!

I wanted to congratulate my good friend, room mate, and colleague! Her artwork was featured on Tumblr, MTV's website, EatSleepDraw TV, and a number of other networking sites. She's one of the hardest working artists I know and she deserves this!

Congratulations to Allison (aka Allisondra) Smith and your hipster spiderman!

More to come!

Do what you love.

Since graduating school, it has taken me a little while to figure out what I want to paint. I know that I love to paint and illustrate, but I felt so much pressure for some reason. I would try and come up with these elaborate concepts for my self and I would get extremely overwhelmed. I felt the pressure of having to paint these big oil paintings and it stressed me out because A. I don't have a studio to do this yet and B. I'm not really making the funds to invest in all the supplies that goes into doing that right now.

These past couple of months have been a learning process for me. A couple of weeks ago, I was having the artist itch and I HAD to create at least something. Then I remembered what my Senior level professor told me when I was having an artist block. He told me to 'paint what I love'. That statement could not be anymore true. During my artist block, I would start painting just anything and I would feel like it was a failure or I didn't find it that interesting.

As of lately, I have been doing illustrations of dreamcatchers. Ever since I was young, I was fascinated with them and thought they were magical. I have really been enjoying working on these illustrations.
